Application
The robot VIONA (Vehicle for Intelligent Off-road NAvigation) is an agile robot platform for use in rough terrain. The vehicle has the size of a small car and weighs about 650 kg. The electric drive consists of four single-wheel motors with 1.2 kW power each. The front and rear axles can be controlled separately. In this way, complex driving maneuvers such as crab steering and double Ackermann steering can be performed.
The mechanics, electronics and control software of the robot platform were implemented by Robot Makers GmbH from design to planning and realization. The rollout took place in November 2012.

Realized added values
Precision
Thanks to its precise control, VIONA allows exact driving maneuvers to be performed in rough terrain. Thanks to the double Ackermann kinematics, the mobile machine is also very maneuverable.
Flexibility
VIONA offers various mounting spaces for sensors and actuators and is therefore perfectly suited for research applications.
Robustness
The vehicle is made of robust steel parts and a resilient profile system. All electronics are protected against water.
