Driverless Vineyard Crawler is presented at the Agrartage Nieder-Olm

From 25th to 27th January 2017, our partner Niko Maschinenbau will present the driverless vineyard crawler to the visitors at the machine exhibition of the Agrartage Nieder-Olm. For the first time, the machine itself will be represented on the booth of our partner in Hall C, Stand 024. Robot Motors GmbH and Niko Maschinenbau would be really happy to welcome you there.

Thanks to the technology of the Robot Makers GmbH, this crawler vehicle is able to complete various care tasks in the vineyard completely autonomously. In contrast to other systems on the market, the machine doesn’t use the high-precision RTK-GPS. Most of the data used for navigation is provided by the “eyes” of the vehicle, so-called ambient environment sensors. In addition to independently running the rows in wine and fruit cultivation, the vehicle is also able to turn independently at the row exit and enter the next row. This allows complete plantations to be processed autonomously.

By eliminating the necessity of the highly accurate RTK-GPS signal, the system achieves greater robustness against signal fluctuations caused by shading (e.g. because of trees or precipices) and weather phenomena. In addition, the position offset arising by the slippage of the crawler while the transposition maneuver can be counterbalanced. This offset forces today’s systems, which are based on precisely predefined tracks, to come to a standstill.

Intervitis, Interfructa, Hortitechnica: Future technologies in viticulture and pomiculture

From 27 to 30 November, the Intervitis, Interfructa, Hortitechnica, a major trade fair for wine, juice and special cultures took place on the grounds of the Landesmesse Stuttgart. In addition to the latest developments in cultivation and harvesting technology, innovations in the areas of handling, process control, marketing and architecture were also presented. Therefore, a good overview above the entire process chain from cultivation to marketing was provided. Members of Robot Makers GmbH were also on the road during the four exhibition days, both as exhibitors and visitors.

Robot Makers at the Night of Sciences

On Friday April, 22th 2016 the Night of Sciences will take place in Kaiserslautern at the institute mile “Trippstadter Straße” and at the Technical University. This exhibition format serves the located institutes, companies and the university campus a display window of new technologies and inspiring science. From 7pm to 12pm the institutes of the PRE-Uni-Park in the “Trippstadter Straße”, the Business + Innovation Center and the campus of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern will again open their doors for many visitors.

4. CVT-Symposium: Trends of the commercial vehicle industry

Last week we participated in the 4th Commercial Vehicle Symposium 2016 at the University of Kaiserslautern. At this three-day fair – beginning at the 8th of march – the most important producers and component suppliers of the commercial vehicle industry introduced the newest trends and technologies. In addition, the visitors were able to listen to a great number of speeches and presentations providing information about the latest state of technology and the future development.

Robot Makers at the 4th CVT-Symposium in Kaiserslautern

Since 2010 the “International Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium” takes place in Rhineland-Palatinate every second year. Within this event, important manufacturers and suppliers of the commercial vehicle industry present their innovations and technologies. From March 08th to 10th, 2016 we are also going to present our innovations on the grounds of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Besides an own booth at the exhibition, we will present in a specialist lecture with the topic “Sensor data representation – a framework for processing, combining, and visualizing information from various sensor systems” (Wednesday, March 09th, 2016, 12:30 pm) the expertise of the Robot Makers GmbH and the strengths of the Softwareframework Finroc® in terms of sensor data processing.

Base control of the modular plantation robot elWObot

Technologies in the field of mobile machinery are advancing rapidly. Today there are already different systems, that help to simplify the use of such machines and make it more secure and efficient. And this is really necessary to meet the high requirements on the quality of work, with the simultaneously predominant pressure of time. In agriculture, for example, you will find assistance systems, that take over the steering of the vehicles with help of GPS and therefore help the driver to concentrate on the work of the implement. A long-term goal is also to develop vehicles that are able to do their work all autonomously. Efforts of this kind are described by the term “mobile automation”. Because there is also a big demand for similar systems in the field of pomiculture and viniculture the chair Agricultural System Technology of Technical University Dresden, the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück and the University of Applied Sciences Geisenheim are developing the autonomous plantation robot elWObot with electric drives. In this project, the Robot Makers GmbH is responsible for the base control of the robot.

Agritechnica 2015: Many new contacts and interesting insights

Last week the biggest trade fair for agricultural technology in the world, the Agritechnica 2015, took place in Hanover. On the one hand we were part of the booth of the chair Agricultural System Technology of Technical University Dresden. On the other hand we took the opportunity to gain an insight into the trends and the state-of-the-art technologies in the agricultural sector.  The chair Agricultural System Technology presented the modular plantation robot elWObot, that should help to do various work, e.g. crop spraying in vineyards and orchards, all autonomously in the future. In this context we introduced our central control unit Generic Control Box. The Generic Control Box is hereby used for the base control of the research vehicle elWObot and coordinates the four individually driven and steerable wheels. Furthermore we presented the possibilities of the Generic Control Box in the field of autonomous navigation based on laser data.
